EGET Foundation Board Chairperson Özlem Uzman recounted the foundation's 10-year journey. Stating that they have expanded scholarship support to ensure equal opportunities in education, Uzman emphasized that they offer hope to young people through numerous social initiatives, from lavender fields to award-winning olive oil.
EGET Foundation Board Chairperson Özlem Uzman met with members of the press at a meeting held to mark the foundation's 10th anniversary.
Uzman stated that the foundation, established in Muğla in 2015 to provide scholarships to young people at risk of dropping out of education, has made significant progress in a short time. "Our entire effort is to rekindle the dreams of our students that have been interrupted. In 10 years, we have provided scholarships to 245 young people. Their success is our greatest source of pride," she said.
Uzman also spoke about the foundation's scholarship system, saying: “We developed a digital system called BUSED to select our scholarship recipients in a completely impartial way. Thanks to this system, we can reach students in need in a much more transparent and fair manner. For us, a student's continued education is the most valuable investment that can be made for the future of the country.”
“Muğla made its name known to the whole world”
Expressing that the EGET Foundation is not limited to scholarships alone, Uzman stated that the lavender field, organic farming businesses, and social entrepreneurship projects they established in Muğla also give hope to students. Uzman said, “The products we grow in our lavender field are not only a source of income, but also an example showing young people that environmentally friendly production is possible. We transfer all of this income to the scholarship fund. Furthermore, our olive oils have won gold medals in international competitions, making Muğla's name known to the whole world. This is a great source of pride for us.”
Uzman stated that the annual Lavender Harvest Festival attracts great interest, saying, “Our festival brings together the local people, our students, and visitors. We provide our young people with a different perspective in an environment where they are close to nature, sharing, and production are prioritized.”
“We will continue to work to protect the values that nature offers us.”
Uzman concluded by emphasizing that the foundation will continue on its path, adhering to its principles: “No matter how difficult the conditions in our country may be, we will not compromise on our belief in education, nature, and young people. We will continue to work to protect the values that nature offers us, so that our students can look to the future with hope.”
