In Anatolian myths, Prometheus's gift of fire to humanity is described as a light that pierced not only the darkness but also hope. Today, in Muğla, there is a foundation that carries the fire of education into the lives of young people and abundance into the heart of nature: EGET FOUNDATION. What they have written after ten years is not an ordinary success story; it is an epic of kindness spreading from Muğla to the world.
Today, I was invited to the press conference of this foundation in Muğla. I learned such things that I scolded myself, thinking, "How could I have lived all these years unaware of this epic of kindness?" The stories told by the foundation's managers, Özlem Uzman and Naki Bulut, were like a mythological epic. I don't know where to begin writing. If I mention one thing, another will be left out, because every detail is a piece of an epic in itself.
FROM OLIVE BRANCH TO SCHOLARSHIP BOOKLET
The olive, in Homer's verses, is a symbol of immortality. EGET Foundation's gold medal-winning Memecik olive oil illuminates not only tables but also the paths of students. Every drop transforms into a scholarship booklet. Every bottle becomes a door opening to the future of young people. This is the first chapter of the epic: the transformation of the olive branch into a booklet.
A LAVENDER-SCENTED FAIRY TALE
Imagine the purple lavender blooming on the coast of Muğla. The dance of the bees, the gratitude of the earth, the scent carried by the wind. These lavenders are the heart of EGET's social enterprise model. The cosmetic products born from them evoke Aphrodite's symbol of beauty. Muğla is now home to a cosmetic brand. Every bottle of lavender oil offers not only beauty but also a student's right to education to the market. The epic is being written here, with the scent of purple flowers.
THE SCALES OF JUSTICE: BUSED
In antiquity, Themis was the goddess of justice; her eyes were closed, her scales never erred. The EGET Foundation's scholarship selection system, BUSED, works just like that. Digital, transparent, and impartial. This system, which received applications from 39,960 young people, brought hope to 245 students. No favoritism, no nepotism. Only hard work, determination, and merit. This is the justice section of the epic.
FESTIVALS, CHILDREN, AND HOPE
The Lavender Harvest Festival, held every summer, brings joy to Muğla like a Dionysian celebration. But there's no wine here; instead, there's knowledge, sharing, and ecology. Workshops where children connect with the soil nurture the future Demeters and Apollos. And the most colorful scenes of the epic are written at these festivals.
A VISION FOR THE FUTURE
Today, EGET is making its mark not only with its past achievements but also with the dreams it has for the future. The heirloom seeds replanted in the soil of Muğla are like Gaia's bounty and Demeter's return to our tables.
By being included in the Good Market list, it is part of a global circle calling the world to goodness and sustainability. Lavenders, reminiscent of Aphrodite's beauty garden, come to life in cosmetic bottles; every drop transforms into a student's educational dream.
And most importantly, there is a new dream on the horizon: the Ecological Life Center. This center will be a contemporary utopia of touching the earth, healthy aging, and living in harmony with nature. Perhaps one day, as we pass through the stone walls of this center, we will feel the breath of the modern epic that EGET has written, inspired by Anatolian myths.
THE NECESSITY OF BEING HUMAN
EGET's founder, Safaî Özer, said, "We didn't want to perpetuate our name; we did what was necessary to be human." This sentence is a modern echo of Anatolia's millennia-old philosophy of goodness. Because in these lands, goodness is not an offering to the gods, but a debt owed to humanity.
Today, EGET is the pride not only of Muğla, but of all Türkiye. Blending hope with education, abundance with ecology, and sustainability with social entrepreneurship, this foundation is writing a contemporary epic of goodness.
And perhaps, at the end of this epic, the light that EGET ignites in the eyes of young people will replace the fire that Prometheus stole. That light will illuminate not only Muğla, but a horizon of goodness spreading from Anatolia to the world.
