Children in Muğla's Menteşe district were introduced to the soil! Through nature and agriculture-focused training organized in collaboration with Menteşe Municipality and the EGET Foundation, young children gained ecological awareness at an early age.
CHILDREN INTRODUCED TO THE SOIL, CREATED THEIR OWN GARDENS
In Muğla's Menteşe district, within the scope of the "A Handful of Soil, A World of Hope" event organized in collaboration with Menteşe Municipality and the EGET Foundation, children received practical agricultural training. Children aged 8-11 both explored nature and experienced the joy of producing by creating their own small gardens.
NATURE, ART AND SCIENCE TOGETHER
Throughout the event, children learned about the structure of soil, were introduced to worm compost, and reflected on climate change and bees. Through philosophical group work, they constructed their own "new continents" based on concepts such as art, science, and clean food.
EMPHASIS ON SENSITIVITY FROM THE MAYOR
Menteşe Mayor Gonca Köksal Aras, in her evaluation after the event, stated the following:
“Bringing children closer to the soil and the living things within it is very valuable for the development of ecological thinking at an early age. The fact that this education took place in Menteşe is significant for us. We believe that the spread of this approach throughout our country will increase children's sensitivity towards nature. We believe that local governments should create space for educational and awareness-raising activities, and we see this meeting as an example of this understanding.”
